The process of organic development is an increasing differentiation of species within the genus and of individuals within the species. Roughly it is true to say that this process is characterised by the increasing articulation of what is latent or undeveloped in the preceding stages. In the earlier stages of religious development particularly the difficulty lies often far more in the description or definition in words of a particular phenomenon than in understanding its nature or feeling its force.
